When trying to get some creative inspiration, sometimes it takes simplifying to make it happen.

I recently received a mismatched collection of flowers that my 5 year old daughter had plucked from my garden. Some were without stem, some were not really made for picking... but alas, my daughter had put a colorful array of blooms in my hand. To short for a standard vase I had to take a shallow bowl from the cupboard and about 1/2 an inch of water and creatively float the blooms and blossoms. We then took some leaves and helped support some of the longer stems and suddenly a flower arrangement was on the credenza.

The loveliness of this is a wonderful palette for a few still life acrylic and scketches...

Muse: the goddess of creativity ( muses of Greek deities)

The Muses in Ancient Greek mythology, poetry, and literature are the goddesses who inspire the creation of literature and the arts. They were considered the source of the knowledge, related orally for centuries in the ancient culture, that was contained in poetic lyrics and myths. The compliment to a real woman who inspires creative endeavor is a later idea.

There is some disagreement also concerning the number of the Muses; for some say that they are three, and others that they are nine, but the number nine has prevailed since it rests upon the authority of the most distinguished men, such as Homer and Hesiod and others like them.

The Roman scholar Varro relates that there are only three Muses: one who is born from the movement of water, another who makes sound by striking the air, and a third, who is embodied only in the human voice. They were:

Melete, or Practice

Mneme, or Memory

Aoide, or Song

However the Classical understanding of the muses tripled their triad, set at nine goddesses, who embody the arts and inspire creation with their graces through remembered and improvised song and stage, writing, traditional music, and dance.

There is so much more written about the muses..... I went to Wikipedia, as well as some of my original Art and Design books to search for more information about how and when they (the muses) were used in art.

How do I use the Madrona Marsh?

As an artist, I go to paint, take photos and get natural inspiration.

As a mom. I go to take my children on nature hikes and educational walks.

As an illustrator and writer of children's books, I get inspiration for new characters, and whimsical stories.

I am always surprised to find NEW birds (new to me)... that I had no idea existed, especially in my own neighborhood. I enjoy watching other families, scout troops and volunteers learn about the native vegetation, preservation, and eco-friendly gardening solutions. I enjoy seeing the work of other artists and photographers in the nature center gallery.

Tickets are available through the Friends of Madrona Marsh and various locations in the area.

I took an hour earlier this week to visit Madrona Marsh, where I am scheduled to paint on Friday, and where I am meeting with some fellow artists, illustrators, and writers on Saturday...

I walked around the Nature Preserve and took some "test photos" to get a few ideas for my painting sessions...

I am very excited... The weather has been very gloomy until Tuesday... the day I went walking...

If you wish to join me, please let me know… then we can arrange for lunch / snacks / drinks accordingly.

What to bring:

Art supplies that are easy to carry: Sketch book, pencils, writing materials if you are a writer…. And a chair or blanket if you plan on sitting…

Sunscreen, Hats, and water (to drink) as well as whatever else it is you plan on using. I recommend comfortable shoes as a few of the trails to the “painting” spot are dusty and off the beaten path…

Inspired by the quaint houses surrounding my son's elementary school... with lush gardens, beautiful porches and benches... This quiet neighborhood is a feast for the eyes at various times of the year... in the spring the wind whispers through the lovely trees. The well kept lawns are a live with children playing throughout the summer... and in the winter time the trees are draped with strings of lights as far as the eye can see. There's so much inspiration that I took my camera on a trip one day... and here is the first completed painting...

I Love Traveling, But I also love to hear about other's travels. That's why I love getting e-mails, blogs and photos sent from friends and family who travel. My cousin and her soon-to-be husband traveled around the world last year, taking many photos along the way. Several of the images sent to me have inspired a World Class Travel collection... Images that scream "Take me away" to a remote tropical location, or captures the heart of another culture.

The first 3 canvases are 6" x 8" inch acrylics...
The final pieces will be quite a bit bigger 24" x 28" / or even bigger...???

I often use test canvas to develop and idea, before going large scale.
It helps figure out the color palette before presenting the big idea to a client.
